By accessing or using Speaklay, you agree to these Terms & Conditions and Platform Policies ("Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use Speaklay.
You confirm that you:
Speaklay / We / Us / Our: Speaklay platform operators.
Platform: Speaklay website, apps, and services.
User: Any person using Speaklay.
Student: A User who books lessons.
Tutor: A User who provides lessons.
Lesson: A tutoring session booked through Speaklay.
Trial Lesson: An introductory lesson offered under special trial rules.
Booking: A confirmed lesson scheduled and paid through Speaklay.
Lesson Room: Speaklay classroom system or approved method of lesson delivery.
Wallet: Tutor earnings available for withdrawal.
Commission: Speaklay’s platform fee deducted from completed lessons.
Refund: A return of funds or credit to a Student.
Cancellation: Canceling a booked lesson using Speaklay tools.
Reschedule: Moving a lesson time using Speaklay tools.
No-Show: Failure to attend a lesson without proper cancellation or rescheduling.
Dispute: A complaint or claim raised regarding lessons, payments, behavior, or technical issues.
Content: Any text, images, files, audio, video, messages, reviews, or profile information posted on Speaklay.
Speaklay is a marketplace platform connecting Students with Tutors. Speaklay does not directly provide tutoring services and does not guarantee learning outcomes.
Tutors are independent service providers and are not employees, agents, or representatives of Speaklay.
Users must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Minors may use Speaklay only under a parent or legal guardian arrangement, meaning:
Users must provide accurate and up-to-date information. Speaklay may suspend or terminate accounts that contain false or misleading information.
Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their account credentials and for all activity that occurs under their account.
Tutors must provide truthful information regarding identity, qualifications, teaching experience, and profile content.
Speaklay may request identity verification or supporting documents from Tutors to protect platform safety and prevent fraud. Failure to comply may result in suspension or termination.
Tutors must:
Speaklay encourages a positive and friendly learning relationship between Students and Tutors. However, professional boundaries must always be maintained.
All lessons must be booked and paid through Speaklay.
Users must not attempt to bypass the platform by arranging lessons or payments outside Speaklay. Attempts to move Students or Tutors off-platform may result in suspension or permanent termination.
Tutors are responsible for keeping their availability accurate and updated.
Students may book lessons in advance through the platform based on available tutor time slots.
Lessons must be booked at least 2 hours before the scheduled start time unless Speaklay changes this requirement.
Lesson times are displayed in the Student’s local time zone by default. Tutors must confirm lesson times correctly in their own time zone.
8.1 Lesson Duration: Tutors must deliver the full duration of the booked lesson.
8.2 Lesson Conduct: All users must behave respectfully. Abuse, harassment, discrimination, threats, or inappropriate behavior are prohibited.
8.3 Prohibited Content: Users must not post or share content that is illegal, harmful, abusive, sexually explicit, or discriminatory.
Trial lessons are introductory sessions designed to assess tutor-student fit and learning goals. Trial lesson duration and pricing may be determined by Speaklay and may change over time.
Tutors must not guarantee results, negotiate off-platform lessons, or request direct payments during trial lessons.
10.1 Free Cancellation Window (Students): Students may cancel lessons up to 12 hours before the scheduled start time without penalty.
10.2 Late Cancellation (Students): Cancellations made less than 12 hours before the lesson start time may result in a partial or full charge.
10.3 Tutor Cancellations: Tutors are expected to honor confirmed lessons. Repeated cancellations may result in reduced visibility, restrictions, suspension, or termination.
10.4 Rescheduling (Flexible): Rescheduling must be completed through Speaklay. Speaklay encourages reasonable flexibility between Students and Tutors to maintain a positive learning experience.
If a Student is late, the Tutor must wait at least 10 minutes. If a Tutor is late, the Student should wait at least 10 minutes. Lessons do not automatically extend beyond the scheduled end time.
12.1 Student No-Show: If a Student does not attend a lesson and does not cancel or reschedule, the lesson is marked as a Student no-show. No refund is issued unless the absence qualifies as a verified emergency.
12.2 Tutor No-Show: If a Tutor does not attend a lesson without valid notice, the Student may receive a refund or reschedule. Repeated tutor no-shows may result in suspension or termination.
If technical issues prevent lesson delivery, Users must report the issue promptly. Speaklay lessons should be conducted using Speaklay’s lesson system. External video tools may only be used when Speaklay’s video system is not working. Speaklay may request evidence of technical issues and may decide whether to reschedule or refund based on the situation.
14.1 Student Payments: Students pay through Speaklay at the time of booking.
14.2 Tutor Pricing: Tutors set their own rates unless Speaklay sets special pricing rules for trial lessons or promotions.
14.3 Commission: Speaklay charges a 10% commission on completed lessons. Speaklay may update commission rates with notice.
14.4 Tutor Earnings and Withdrawals: Tutor earnings become available after lesson completion. Payouts are typically processed within 24 hours to 5 business days. Speaklay may apply verification checks to protect users and prevent fraud.
Refunds depend on lesson status, cancellation timing, attendance, technical issues, and policy compliance. Speaklay decisions on disputes, refunds, and enforcement are final.
Speaklay may offer promotions, referral rewards, or affiliate programs. Abuse of promotions or referral systems may result in suspension or termination.
Students may leave reviews after lessons. Review manipulation, fake reviews, or abusive reviews are prohibited.
Speaklay may take action to protect users, including warnings, restrictions, suspension, or termination. Speaklay may temporarily withhold payouts during investigations where necessary.
Speaklay processes personal data in accordance with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Speaklay may collect and process personal data necessary to provide platform services, prevent fraud, and provide customer support.
Users may request access, correction, deletion, or restriction of their personal data by contacting support.
Tutors own their teaching materials unless they choose to license them. Speaklay owns its platform content, design, branding, and software.
Speaklay is not liable for indirect losses, learning outcomes, or disputes beyond platform policies. Speaklay’s total liability is limited to the amount paid for the disputed lesson.
Speaklay may suspend or terminate accounts for policy violations, fraud, abuse, or platform circumvention. Users may stop using the platform at any time.
Speaklay may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the platform means acceptance of the updated Terms.
